We had our 2 week check up today. Kalen is weighing in at 9lbs 8oz and he's grown an inch and a half. He's at 23 inches now, he's in the 99 percentile for height. The doctor said this is not an indicator that he will be tall, but it makes me wonder where he gets his length. Everything else looks really good on him. He had a fussy day yesterday and wouldn't take a nap, so today he's been out most of the day. Adam's mom and sister fly in tonight. It will be a fun week.

Just a day in the life of a baby

We had a big weekend. His other grandparents made a surprise visit to us. Kalen had his first BBQ. Grandpa and Grandma Weddle bought him his first swing. He's still getting used to it. Adam put him in hypermode speed that upset his stomach and he had a little puke session. Now the house is empty and we are trying to figure out some kind of routine. Seems funny to say that, since he's on his own schedule and i just do whatever he wants to do. He's been sleeping in pretty good spurts at night. We wake up every 2-3 hours to eat and then he falls back to sleep. He hasn't been the best napper during the day, but i think it was because we had visitors, he seems to be sleeping a little more each day. We've been taking nightly walks around the neighborhood. The walks keep me sane and i'm hoping it will become his little nightly tradition, so he knows it's time to unwind and go to sleep.

One Week Old
Kalen is one week old today. It sure doesn't feel like we've had him for that long already. Time flies when your having fun. He's been doing really good. We had our first dr. visit this Wednesday. He checked out good. He had already gained 8oz in 2 days - normally they say an ounce a day is good. Since he's been eating nonstop since we got home, I won't be surprised if he's up to 10 pounds at our 2 week check up. We also had our first outing to Trader Joes this week. He made it through the shopping without crying at all. Adam went back to work today, but said he missed Kalen the whole time. My parents are here right now so they are helping out around the house.

Kalen Gregory Bennett finally arrived!
Kalen Gregory Bennett was born on July 6th at 8:30pm weighing 8lbs 12oz and 21.5 inches long.
We are all home and doing well. Buzzzz is still trying to figure out what we brought home with us:)
I tried everything possible to have the little guy naturally, but in the end he just didn't want to come out and he ended up being delivered via c-section. I was totally ok with the decision and ready for him to come out. We were finally able to check out of the hospital yesterday afternoon and very glad to be home and free to move around without machines and nurses:) Kalen is breastfeeding like a champ and me and adam are doing ok on the sleep department. Adam has taken to the daddy role wonderfully and changes diapers and burps Kalen like a pro already!!

Officially 2 Weeks Late
So I lied in my last update. Luckily, the hospital called when we were walking out the door last night to cancel our induction appt. They had too many women in labor and didn't have any room for me. Then the hospital called me back this morning at 5am and said that I could come in now. I decided to call my midwife before heading in to see if there was anyway I could see her first. She said that was not a problem so we headed to her office at 8:30am this morning and she checked to see if I had dilated, still nothing had changed. So we went in for another ultrasound to see how baby Kalen is doing in there and make sure things still looked good for him to hang out. He scored another 8 out of 8, so my midwife decided that it was OK to wait for a few more days and see what happens. Hopefully since I've been feeling mild contractions something will happen on it's own. We head back to the dr. on Friday to check things out. Just maybe he'll be born this Saturday, the luckiest day ever 7-7-07.

Final Days
We checked into the hospital last night at about 8:30 and they hooked me up to some monitors to watch the babies heartbeat and to see if i was having any contractions. The miracle was that I was having contractions, but they were very mild since i couldn't feel them. Then the nurse inserted cervidal - which is suppose to help soften my cervix and hopefully get me to start dilating. One thing they don't tell you about those monitors, is they are not comfortable to sleep in - you have these elastic bands around your stomach all night and they start to itch and get ingrained into your skin, i had to wear those things for 12 hours...if you can't tell they were not my favorite part:) The dr. checkd me at 10am this morning and i still hadn't dilated, but i did efface by 50% which means the medicine helped a little bit. They wanted to start a new drug right away, but i was able to talk them into letting me leave the hospital for the day. I just couldn't imagine sitting in that bed all day on such a nice day outside. So we head back to the hospital tonight at 9:30. This time they won't let me leave, since i will be officially 2 weeks late. All i can hope for at this point is i go into labor on my own before we have to go back to the hospital. I'm also hoping my midwife will be feeling better by the time i go into labor since she hurt her back over the weekend and wasn't able to come in today. My next update should be about welcoming Kalen into the world.
